We are so proud of our cycling heroes, who last month completed their ‘Heart to Home’ charity cycle ride for Maggie’s.
They began their epic journey at the heart, our Hemel Hempstead HQ on the 29th August and crossed the finish line in Glasgow some 5 days later, completing a tremendous 500 miles!
Our colleagues took the opportunity to visit Sir Robert McAlpine project landmarks along the route including; Snow Dome Milton Keynes, Kettering Plant Yard, National Space Centre Leicester, Intu Broadmarsh Shopping Centre Nottingham, Majestic and Mustard Wharf Leeds, Taylors of Harrogate, The Gates Durham, Northumberland Uni, The Foundry, Torness Power station, Emirates Arena and Newarthill, where it all began some 150 years ago!
And as with most cycling events, they enjoyed a refreshment stop or two each day, visiting Maggie’s centres where they received a warm welcome with tea and cakes.
Over the five days, they climbed an impressive 24,000 ft, covered 500 miles and have raised around £10,000 for Maggies, a charity that offers practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.
Last year, Maggie's had over 281,000 visits to its centres from people with cancer and their family and friends. Our Heart to Home ride will help to fund Maggie’s vital programme of essential drop-in, one-to-one and group support. This funding will help to ensure that they can continue to meet the ever-increasing demand for support at their centres nationwide. Every pound donated and raised will help to make the lives of people and families living with cancer better.
It’s more than a decade since we started working with Maggie’s, as well as constructing many of its centres, we've raised more than £1,000,000 for the charity.
