Strong Foundations Grant recipients in London
15 Apr 2024Congratulations to the six charities and grassroots initiatives that have been awarded a share of the £15,000 fund via ActionFunder from our Foundations Grant in London for 2023.
the mersey way workshop will be a
creative community space
right here on stockport's high street
where people can come and make
learn share and inspire

the workshop will be run by
non-for-profit organizations easy peel
studio
and plastic shed who came together with
the shared ambition
for reimagining how the high street can
benefit the greater community
throughout the project we will be
working with partnership organizations
such as stockpot council
and cbre who fully back the project and
will help us deliver meaningful work to
the public
so plastic shed is a social enterprise
based in stockport and
we run lots of different workshops to
bring the community together to turn
plastic waste into useful new things
so the future of the high street is
changing and in stockport around
a quarter of the shops are empty and
this centre in particular
has dropped in value by about 60 in the
past four years
obviously with coronavirus that's going
to be accelerated
and it's not only an economic impact but
also a social impact
in stockport there's around 30 000
low-income families and
36 400 people living in poverty
so we want to open this creative
community space that's
providing low-cost free accessible
opportunities for people to make stuff
share skills and learn and having the
high street back in local hands means
that it's connected to local people
and is accountable to the community
